ACCOMODATIONS
Georgiana Live Aboard This yacht is a brand new, fully constructed and designed for outdoor purposes, able to take you to the most remote and pristine flats of the Island of the Youth. She is 100 feet long, with comfortable cabins and private bathrooms used for weekly trips inside the Marine Park of the Canarreos Archipelago, the world famous chain of islands that runs eighty miles from the Island of the Youth to Cayo Largo. It can accommodate groups of 6 anglers in exclusivity, in 6 deluxe cabins with air conditioning, hot water, private bathroom and wide storage space.

Perola Live Aboard The Perola is a classic 75-foot luxury yacht that we utilize for weekly trips to the most remote areas of the Canarreos Archipelago, the world famous chain of islands that runs eighty miles from the Isle of Youth to Cayo Largo. The Perola is a beautiful yacht, recently refurbished, and perfect for a group of six anglers. There are four very comfortable air-conditioned cabins below deck, most having their own private bath, with good showers and plenty of hot water. Anglers will really appreciate the large amount of storage space available in each of the rooms. This is an impressive yacht, with highly polished hardwood floors and teak paneling. Circular stairways take you downstairs to the cabins or upstairs to the dining area on the top open-air deck. The top deck is covered and always remains in the shade, but open to the sea breeze, insuring guests a comfortable and insect-free environment. Clear plastic side coverings are utilized in harder winds or in inclement weather.

DESTINATION CAPACITY
Georgiana Live Aboard - can accommodate 6 anglers per week

THE FISHING
This part of Cuba really is ideal for those who are interested on focusing on tarpon for the week. The reefs, channels, mangrove lagoons and bays all hold tarpon in good numbers, particularly from March to June, where 100 pound + fish are landed each month. There are lots of other opportunities at other species when fishing from both the Georgiana and Perola, including bonefish and on occasion, permit. But, the Isle of Youth really is a tarpon oriented area and guests booking trips to these live aboards should be aware of this. Barracuda, jacks, snappers and the odd snook are also available in the waters around the Isle of Youth. Fishing Tarpon or Sabalo, as it is known in Cuba, can be divided into three categories: Baby Tarpon (those that they weigh up to 30 Lbs), Medium Tarpon (those that weigh 30 Lbs up to 80 Lb) and Monster Tarpon (those of more than 80 Lb and sometimes can surpass the incredible mark of 150 Lbs). Obviously, the last category is hunted hard, but unfortunately these behemoths are much less common.

Georgiana Live Aboard - The Georgiana is traditionally moored off the north east side opt the Isle of Youth the east side of the Canarreos, where after intensive research the Avalon staff have assigned 10 different fishing areas with a rotation system, similar to the one used in Cayo Largo. This allows to reduce fishing pressure on each area, having non-spooky fish, and increasing your chances of success.

Perola Live Aboard – The yacht will stop off at selected anchorages like Cayo Campo, the Cantilles islands and finally Cayo Rosario, which is renowned for some of the most outstanding flats fishing in all of Cuba. Like the area to the northeast of the Isle of Youth, this string of islands, channels and lagoons, offer very good sight casting to tarpon.

For larger groups we can book out both yachts and moor them right beside each other.

BOATS AND EQUIPMENT
The flats skiffs used when fishing both the Georgiana and Perola, are 18 foot Dolphin Super Skiffs powered by 60-90 horse powered engines. The boats have rod holders and poling platforms and a generous casting area at the front of the skiff.

GETTING THERE
To reach the two live aboards located off shore, guests with be transferred from the Parque Central Hotel to the domestic airport for the 35 minute flight down to the main city on the Isle of Youth, Nueva Gerona. You will then be transferred by van or bus to the marina, where the motherships, Georgiana and Perola will be waiting.
